BlindPrivilege began on December 18, 2006 for the purpose of discussing how privilege blinds us to a lack of equality in our world.  Everyone is affected by privilege to some degree.  We get accustomed to the privileges we’ve enjoyed since birth.  It doesn’t occur to us that others don’t share them - on in some cases, that others have any business sharing them.  Sometimes it diminishes our perception of our own accomplishments to recognize that some of our peers may have overcome more obstacles than we did to get to the same place; so we look for ways to dismiss their claims of inequality, or indicate that they cheated.  Or we take the worst possible step and say that their group has no right even to earn the privileges we inherited for no good reason.

If you’re interested in looking at the world from a broader perspective - walking a mile in the other person’s shoes - this site is for you.
